Director and Principal Audio Engineer

Jim Starzynski is director and principal audio engineer for NBCUniversal, overseeing audio technologies and practices for NBCUniversal television properties. He is responsible for establishing NBC’s audio strategy for digital television and works on advanced technologies.

Starzynski is chairperson of the ATSC subgroup on Next Generation Audio and chairman of the Sports Video Group’s DTV Audio Group. He is vice-chairman of the AES Broadcast and Online Delivery Technical Committee and chairman of the CTA’s OTT Loudness Group. He is also a SMPTE Fellow and a member of AES.

Starzynski is a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences multiple honoree and author of the 2017 NAB Engineering Handbook’s chapter on “Digital Television Audio Loudness Management”. He is the 2011 recipient of the ATSC’s highest technical honor, the Bernard J. Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award.
