NBA Entertainment
EVP, Media Operations and Technology

Steve Hellmuth is the EVP of media operations and technology for NBA Entertainment. He is responsible for overseeing the league’s broadcast operations, engineering and stats, and analytics technology departments. The global delivery of video and statistics via satellite, fiber, broadband, and mobile falls under Hellmuth’s purview. He also oversees the development and implementation of the NBA broadcast facility standards for the design, construction, and operation of the NBA arenas, including lighting and camera placement in-venue.

Under Hellmuth’s direction, the NBA installed SportVU Player Tracking technology from STATS for the 2013-2014 NBA season in every venue, making the NBA the first major U.S. professional sports league to quantify and analyze the player movement in live-game action throughout an entire season. Player tracking is now done by Second Spectrum.

Hellmuth also was production manager for Super Bowl XX, produced the Emmy-nominated opening telecasts for the 1986 World Series, and coordinated the production of Olympic profiles for the 1980 Moscow games. He produced Larry Bird Night for the Boston Celtics and the All Century Team Celebration on field at the 1999 MLB All-Star game, as well. Hellmuth graduated from Princeton University in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in art history.
